I teach a Sunday School class of delightful grade 4-6 aged kids. They’re a bright and engaging group of kids and we’ve built a culture of thinking about and discussing our weekly lessons and I love the thoughts and questions they share.
Yesterday (Palm Sunday) I decided to do something a bit different with them – I made a daily log of the events that occurred in Christ’s life during Easter week – from the crowds crying “Hallelujah” to the glorious resurrection.
I printed one for each kid, along with the event and references (I stuck to Matthew’s account) and a box for them to draw the event. We went through it as a class and then they took it home for reference through the week.
I had corresponding questions for each day of the week, too. The questions are simple but meant to cause reflection and inspire more thoughts.
After the lesson I decided I was going to do this during my own morning devotions through the week – a slowing down and really reflecting on what occurred a couple thousand years ago. I shared on my instagram account and a number of people asked for a printable copy, so I thought I would share the files here.
I couldn’t find a definitive event that occurred on Wednesday, so instead made a Thursday am and a Thursday pm to distinguish between the preparation and the event itself.
For those that find the question elementary, I encourage you to develop your own thought provoking questions – I am a big believer in questions being a solid platform from which we can learn, discover, and grow! So when you find yourself reading through them and finding them to be simple, reword them and make them an engaging question for yourself!
If you are giving these to a child to do on their own, just know that while most of the readings are pretty short Friday’s reading is pretty intense – both in its length and its contents and perhaps helping a child read through and process it would be best.
