I am going to share this lemonade recipe as it was originally passed on to me – with all its glorious sugar. But keep in mind you can convert it to your sweetener of choice! Of late, I have actually taken to making it with very little sweetener and we just adjust to taste as Paul prefers it with almost nothing and I like it a bit sweeter!
The “secret” to this amazing lemonade recipe is that you blend up the entire lemon – giving it an amazing mouth puckering satisfyingly rich lemon flavor. It’s not for everyone, but if you love lemon I bet you will love the complexity the lemon peel brings to this lemonade recipe!
The lemon peel gets strained out before you serve it, so there is no gross texture or floaters in this lemonade! A mesh strainer or cheesecloth works well for straining out the bits of lemon.
Homemade Lemonade Recipe
Ingredients
3 unwaxed lemons, washed and quartered
6 and 1/4 cups of water, divided
3/4 cup of sugar
Tools
Blender
Strainer
Directions
1. Place the quartered lemons, the sugar and part of the water in a blender (depending on size of your blender jar, but I use about 3 cups in the blender) and blend until lemons are blended up.
2. Pour the mixture through a strainer and into your serving jar.
3. Add the remaining water and stir well. Add ice cubes and lemon slices for serving.
