New school year

First week complete
Grade ten and eleven
There’s a shift that happens
Somewhere in the growing up
Where the needs change

I need you
Doesn’t look like help
putting arms through arm holes
And shoes on the right feet

It doesn’t look like direction
What do I do next
Or how do I spell …
Or what does this word mean
Or the why, why, why’s

I need you
Starts to look like
I.need.you.
To play a game
To drink coffee with
To laugh and to listen and to be
Together, content, without guile

I need you
Becomes an assumption
Not words spoken
Easy to miss as independence soars
And boundary lines shift
And everything changes

And yet, nothing changes
It’s simply the next season

Of learning what it means to love well.

At this point we are several weeks into our new school year. I wrote that poem upon completion of our first week of this new school year, and just realized I should have shared it here! We are adjusting to grade ten and eleven, with the eleventh grader doing dual enrollment and driving, the tenth grader has his driving permit, and wow! So many changes so quickly. Still enjoying the beauty of Ambleside Online, though it looks a good bit different for my oldest who is doing college classes.

Hope everyone is off to a beautiful start of this new school year, and if not, don’t lose sight of the fact that the Lord’s mercies are new every morning. Great is His faithfulness!
