It is officially summer break over here and we will be doing our Summer Suitcase of Fun again (more on that soon!) and as part of that I am going to be including a summer reading log for the boys to keep track of what they read through the summer.
I have created their school planners for the upcoming year in a Lord of the Rings theme, so decided to make their summer reading log in the same theme – then thought perhaps others would enjoy a printable summer reading log, too, and made a floral design and a more basic design to cover a wider base of likes.
While the summer reading log is meant to be self explanatory, I am going to explain real quickly how it is intended to be used, and then you use it however best suits you!
Each log is built into a little bookmark (four per sheet). These can be cut out and placed in the books read at the end of the summer, or left as a complete log.
Each log has a place to write the Book Title, Author’s name, Page Length, and the Time to Complete the book. Then there are lines and a blank space – your family culture is sure to have ideas for what to write or draw, but here are the ideas that our family would utilize:
1. A favorite quote
2. Who you would recommend the book to
3. How you learned about the book
4. What you ate while reading the book
5. Where you sat or lay to read the book
6. Where the book took place
7. What you learned from the book
8. Food talked about in the book
9. Historical events or people mentioned
The final element on the reading log is a 5 star system to color in your own idea of how many stars the book merits in your opinion.
You can download the pdf for each summer reading log here

If this is a resource you enjoy, please do share! It will be a big help to me if you would share on Pinterest and Facebook – or whichever platform you prefer. Thank you so much, and happy summer!
